M13 (NGC6205) Hercules Globular Cluster

Hercules Cluster

This is not to be mistaken for 'Hercules Cluster - Abell 2151' which is a cluster of about 75 bright Galaxies about 500 million light years away. The Globular Cluster is the most prominent in the northern half of the sky. It is nearly a perfect sphere of stars. At 165 light years diameter, you are looking at light that left the cluster 23,000 years ago. In 1974, M13 was chosen by Carl Sagan/Frank Drake as a target for one of the first radio messages addressed to Extra Terrestials sent by the huge Arecibo Telescope.
